The Magick of Ostara
Ostara is a spring Sabbat. To many witches Imbolc marks the beginning of spring while Ostara is the midway point when spring is at its peak.
It is the vernal equinox, when day and night are of equal length. A time of balance and rebirth. A reawakening of nature.
Go for a walk outside and look for signs of spring. Pick some spring flowers to put on your altar.
Cast spells and do rituals focused on fertility, growth, abundance, rebirth, new beginnings, and balance.
Celebrate Ostara at sunrise. Feel the rays of the life-giving sun on your skin and take a moment to meditate on areas of your life where you would like to see growth.
Do some spring cleaning, both physically and spiritually. Spring clean your home, declutter, or do a deep clean. Use your besom to ritually sweep away any stagnant energy.
A symbol of Ostara is the hare. Hares represent fertility and have long been associated with witches as it was thought that a witch could shape shift into a hare.
Eggs are used in Ostara magick. An obvious symbol of birth and re-birth. Bless eggs, eat eggs, dye eggs, decorate with eggs. Try making cascarilla powder by crushing egg shells and use it for protection.
Do some gardening and bless your garden. Water your indoor plants with moss agate infused water. Bless and sow seeds.
Ostara is associated with the Germanic Goddess Eostre and is where Easter got its name. Eostre is a Goddess of fertility. Invoke Eostre and other Goddesses of love and fertility at this time such as Aphrodite, Isis, Persephone, or Hathor.
