The Magick of Primrose

Wild primrose typically flowers in the U.K from February to May, but this can vary depending on the variety. They are perennial flowers and often found growing in woodlands. Wild primroses are yellow but you can find different species of primrose in a vast array of colours.

Primroses are a symbol of Spring, being one of the first flowers to bloom here in the U.K. Use primroses in springtime rituals, place them on your Imbolc or Ostara altar. Plant them in your garden to cultivate that springtime energy.

"Thy smiles I note, sweet early Flower,

That peeping from thy rustic bower

The festive news to earth dost bring,

A fragrant messenger of Spring."

To a Primrose by Samuel Taylor Coleridge

Primroses are associated with faeries, often referred to as "fairy flowers". It is believed that primroses can grant the ability to see faeries. Try planting primroses in your garden to connect with the faery realm.

Primrose flowers and leaves are edible, use them in magickal cooking. Add them to springtime salads, top cakes and cookies with them, add them to drinks, or freeze them in ice cubes.

Add primrose flowers to your bath for beauty, youthfulness, and to attract love.

"Through primrose tufts, in that green bower,

The periwinkle trailed its wreaths;

And 'tis my faith that every flower

Enjoys the air it breathes."

Lines Written in Early Spring by William Wordsworth

To promote beauty, steep primrose flowers in water, leave it to charge under the full moon and use the water to wash your face the following morning. Place a rose quartz crystal in the water to charge too for an additional boost.

Primroses can be used as protection from evil witchcraft. Collect 13 primrose flowers and craft a garland of them for protection.

The saying "to walk a primrose path" means to live a life of pleasure and self-indulgence.

"One little flower -- a primrose fair,

Just opening into sight;

As in the days of infancy,

An opening primrose seemed to me

A source of strange delight. "
